Philip S. Sousa is an associate in the Trusts & Estates Group. Philip’s practice covers estate planning, probate and trust administration, and conservatorships.
Philip’s estate planning practice focuses on basic estate planning documents, consisting of revocable trusts, wills, durable powers of attorney and advanced health care directives, as well as more advanced estate planning techniques, including, special needs trusts, shelter trusts, marital trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, generation-skipping trusts, and charitable trusts. Philip’s probate and trust administration practice focuses on counseling executors, administrators, and trustees through either the formal probate and more informal trust administration process in order to assist them in accomplishing their duties, discharging their fiduciary liability, and completing the administration in the most efficient and effective manner. Philip also assists clients in establishing conservatorships for individuals who have lost capacity or have a developmental disability and counsels conservators regarding their ongoing fiduciary duties and requirements under California law.
Prior to joining Lakin Spears, Philip was an associate with firms in Sacramento, California and San Jose, California, where he worked under attorneys certified as a specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law.
Philip is a member of the State Bar of California’s Trust and Estate section and a past Co-Chair of the Silicon Valley Bar Association’s New Attorneys Round Table. In his free time, Philip enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, playing soccer, reading, hiking, and watching sports.
