Rita A. Patterson
Rita A. Patterson is a partner of the Family Law Group and is a Certified Family Law Specialist, certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Her practice is devoted to handling complex custody and financial issues including child and spousal support, property division, business valuation, premarital agreements and move away cases.
Ms. Patterson is a native of Indiana and was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1994, followed by four years of practice as a staff attorney with the Legal Aid Society in Evansville, Indiana, where she handled a range of family law matters, including domestic violence and child custody cases.
Ms. Patterson moved to the Bay Area in 1999 and was admitted to the California State Bar in 2000. She became a Family Law Specialist in 2005, and practiced with the law firm of Hammer & Jacobs, LLP from 2000-2007, where she was made a partner in 2005. Ms. Patterson joined Lakin Spears as a partner in 2008.
Ms. Patterson is an active member of the Santa Clara Bar Association and the San Mateo County Bar Association. She is a member of the Family Law Executive Committee and was Co-Chair in 2005 and the Legislation Subcommittee Chair in 2004. She has been a presenter at family law continuing education seminars and serves as a Pro Tem Settlement Officer for the Santa Clara County Superior Court.
In her spare time, Ms. Patterson enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with her children and her husband.
